As artists we are always developing. I started this site some years ago to monitor my progress at art classes. Some areas have improved faster than others and I expect this to continue to be an interesting journey. Constructive comments are always welcome. Steve.

Dusk Fishing Lad.

My attempt at making a rough copy of Walter Dendy Sadler's - Fishing at Twilight.
Pastel on board approx 14"x12". May 07. The lower picture is a copy of the original.

Hi, Steve,

Sorry I've not called here lately. I've been attending out-patients at my hospital. My Internet access will be sporadic for the next few weeks as I'm likely to be hauled back as an in-patient.

I love your pastel rendition. I have just a very small moan. The boy’s head seems slightly small for his body. This is the problem I have with drawing. I make the difficult parts invisible, so I draw them tiny – the hand is an example. But I learned that the hand spans the face when you cover you it.

Regards,
Coral

Hi Coral,
Thanks for the comment. I realised that that the figure wasn't quite right but have left well alone since this is only the second time I've ever drawn a person!

And I'd promised myself that the blog should show all my work, good or otherwise, so that way we can see if I make progress. There are also some areas where the green colours don't match, I'm told. Being colour blind its too easy to pick up a different pastel from the one I thought I'd been using - but it all adds variety to life.

Anyone who's interested in a mainly amateur painting group on the net would be welcome to join
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Worldwide_Artists
where we regularly post our work in progress and have galleries and competitions. Good fun. The progress of "Dusk Fishing Lad" can be seen there (I think you may have to join first).

Coral, I do hope your hospital visits go OK.
Steve.
